LEAN PRODUCTION AND ANIMATED PREVIS

When it comes to shooting, the clock is always ticking.
Faced with employees unable to work overtime and a budget that only accounted for one day of shooting, we found ourselves in a real bind. Add to the mix a live horse on set and a specific twist in the plot, and you have a recipe for a challenging shoot. So, how did we overcome these obstacles?

First, we had to think creatively about how to fit two days of shooting into a one-day budget. The solution? Carve out a few specific scenes that could be handled on the second day with a lean, three-person team.

The horse, along with the necessary cameras, lights, and riders, presented a more complex challenge, especially under the pressure of an 8-hour day. We needed something specific, a clear vision to guide us. That's where previsualization came in. By creating a previs, we were not only able to present the concept at the Pre-Production Meeting (PPM) but also to fully understand if our idea could actually work in reality. It was a bold move, but it paid off, allowing us to execute our vision efficiently and effectively.

We knew that the storyline would take an unexpected turn midway, but then several questions arise: How much time do we have to tell out story in each segment? How many clips do we need? How can we tell a compelling story? These are the types of questions we ask ourselfs, and this is why we created the previsualization. It helps in understanding and planning for such scenarios, ensuring that the final product aligns with the vision and constraints of the project.

OBS! Other shots used in this 3D previsualization were included merely to symbolically fill out space that didn't need to be animated, and were not produced by us in any way.
